Band Annoucement! Instead of Sleeping

Our good friends Instead of Sleeping will be playing The Summer Break Festival on June 28th in Kent, OH.

Instead of Sleeping
Hailing from the industrial-hub of Pittsburgh, PA, comes indie-rock band Instead of Sleeping. Comprised of Shaun Sweeney (guitar/lead vocals), Jeff Binando (bass/backup vocals), Woody Wright (guitar/keys/auxiliary percussion) Corey McClaine (drums); this four-piece has been demanding attention of the Steel City and beyond with their signature blend of contemporary indie rock since their 2008 inception. They released their first effort, a self-titled full-length in March 2010 and followed it up with their Just Hear to Listen EP soon after in January 2011.

During their years together, Instead of Sleeping has evolved from a hookah-bar jam band into a multi-instrumental outfit. Now showcasing two drum kits, keys, and a myriad of other sound that transformed the band from a traditional indie-rock quartet into a swelling stage presence. The fellas built up a strong reputation as an independent rock band touring regionally on their third studio effort, The Reds, The Blacks, The Grays, which dropped in the Spring of 2012. The band has been privileged to share the stage with notable national acts fun., The Dear Hunter, O’Brother, and Good Old War.

Instead of Sleeping released their album, Young Lungs in the summer of 2014. They headed out to Chicago to work with renowned producer/mixer Marc McClusky (Weezer, Bad Religion, Ludo, Let Live) on their full-length project. The band credits McClusky for refining their musical chops, stating, “We learned more about music and songwriting in the sixteen days that we spent with him in SAE Institute than we ever had in our entire lives. He really challenged us to write outside of our comfort zones. While this was terrifying, going through a creative and musical gauntlet, we came out of it with an album that we couldn’t be more proud of.”

Before the Streetlights
The Summer Break Festival is proud to announce the first band of the year that will be taking the stage with Chil on June 28th in Kent, OH.

Twin brothers, Josh (vocals, bass) & Tyler (vocals, guitar) Courtney, recruited Tyler Pritchett on guitar & Zach Schindler on drums and began playing shows. Their Pop/Punk sound takes influence from what they all grew up listening to: Fall Out Boy, AFI, and Blink-182.

The band released their first EP 'Handshakes and High Fives' in August of 2013 and quickly followed up with 'Highways' which was recorded with Austin Bello of Forever The Sickest Kids. Spending time with an artist that was part of a band which were signed to Universal Motown and later on Fearless Records sharpened the band's sound which was evident on their three song release in July 2014. The pop/punk group has since released a music video for "18 After All" (directed by Vince Lundi) and a Split EP with fellow Indiana native band The Weekend Classic. Apart from strings of regional shows this summer, Before the Streetlights will be in Los Angeles, California recording with Mike Hart.
